Brands I’m thinking about in November - Vegan Food Edition

Once again I am late to the party with some of these brands (Congratulations to Current Foods on their acquisition by Wicked Kitchen) but I am still adding them to this list, because they’re doing the work to create .

It should be said that I come from the North Shore of Massachusetts where we have a fishing community that is incredibly rich culturally and politically. Overfishing has been disastrous for local fishermen and for the environment. This being said, I want to highlight the fishing community in Gloucester, Massachusetts. There are more well-spoken, knowledgable people who can say much more on the subject here.

Gloucester is the oldest fishing community in the United States. Massachusetts was home to the most important port for the whaling industry in the world in the 1700s and 1800s. This is a part of the culture where I grew up and I think it is really important to say this at the beginning of this list.

Here is the list of vegan food brands making vegan alternatives to foods that we typically don’t think of as vegan-friendly.

  1. MyJinka - vegan seafood.

  2. Climax - vegan blue cheese, feta. brie, and chevre (they use AI to discover what makes these products so craveable).

  3. Squeaky Bean - a bigger variety here but I am very curious about their vegan smoked salmon.

  4. Beleaf - they have a plant-based sunny side egg and the best looking vegan shrimp I’ve seen so far.

  5. Boldly Foods - the one I may be most interested in trying besides Climax - Boldly has a seafood-focused variety including vegan calamari steaks and crabsticks.
