HoldOn Trash Bags

Another company, another single-use plastic challenge. This time, it’s trash bags. And let me tell you these statistics are incredibly depressing. 100 billion trash bags are used and thrown away in America alone. 100 billion, people.

That’s just the start. Guess how many years it takes for one plastic trash bag to break down? 1000 years. And oh yeah, while those years are passing by, the bag is emitting lots of gross toxic gases.

HoldOn is doing something about this. It’s these small daily changes that, over time, can make a huge difference. Their trash bags are a.) home compostable, b.) heavy duty, c.) non-toxic, d.) BPI certified, e.) plant-based. You can check out their material breakdown on this page.

HoldOn is making compostable trash bags and kitchen sets that are good for the environment.

HoldOn doesn’t just have trash bags. They also have a full kitchen set with zipseal gallon bags and sandwich bags.

In my personal opinion, convenience is a big hill to scale when it comes to everyday changes we can make to address climate change. Its hard to do everything we are supposed to do and also pretty much impossible. We can’t all bike to work or walk. We can’t all shop locally because it gets expensive and sometimes you just need regular milk.

But there are seemingly tiny changes that can have massive implications. Like if big chain stores made it possible to purchase the HoldOn bags instead of regular plastic ones.

Also, the bright branding I love. I think its smart when companies focus on making a product stand out without losing the mission. They’re not trying to do everything all at once, just one thing done right.
